Merit Badge College
Sat. - Oct. 11
The centennial district (the district we belong to) is holding a merit badge college on Oct. 11. This is a good way for the scouts to earn some merit badges. In order to earn merit badges, prerequisites will need to be completed - so plan well if you plan to attend. Below is a link, which contains a lot more information. We will not be attending as a troop activity, but I encourage each scout and their parents to learn more and see if they will be able to attend.

Upcoming Events
Tues - Sept 16 - We will not be working on communications this week. We will be planning the menu for the campout and we will be setting up new troop leadership
Fri/Sat - Sept 19/20 - Campout - We are still planning to hike Mt. Massive. However, if any of you saw the mountains on Saturday, they looked pretty snowy. If they still look pretty snowy on Friday, we will probably change plans and camp somewhere else.
There are a few things that each young man will absolutely need to have on this campout:
1. Back pack to carry all their gear - we will be backpacking in about 3 miles with all our gear and camping. If your young man needs a back pack, or anything else on this list, please let me know as we have some available to use from other ward members.
2. Sleeping bag rated to 20 degrees. It will most likely drop below freezing where we camp. If you have a warmer sleeping bag - bring it.
3. Sleeping pad. A sleeping bag only works to the degree rating if it is used in connection with a pad. No pad = a lot less warmth.
4. Warm Clothes - again it will most likely drop below freezing. We will stay pretty warm while hiking up hill and working, but when we settle down to eat, it will be cold. Be prepared for 20 degree or lower temperatures. The current forecast has highs in the 60's and lows in the 30's, but please BE PREPARED for colder.
5. Water/water bottles - please bring enough water bottles to hold 64oz. of water
6. Extra room in pack to pack food, and space to strap on or pack pieces of the tent.
This list is not comprehensive. If you have any questions about what your young man needs to bring, please give me a call.
This campout is going to be awesome in many ways and we look forward to it! It will also be a challenge, so come with your "game face" on!

Upcoming Events - Changes
Sun - Sept 28, 7:00 pm- Court of Honor - held at the Church. This was originally tentatively planned for that Tues (Sept 30).
Tues - Sept 9 - As discussed in quorum, please bring your backpack that you will bring on our camp-out (un-packed). I would like to see what each young man has, and know for sure if we need to borrow any packs. Also, if you could bring the shoes you plan on wearing on the camp-out, I would like to see those as well (not discussed in quorum).
THANKS!
CAMP-OUT! - SEPT 19-20
We will still plan on our camp-out as originally planned for Sept. 19-20. Since the young men have school off that day, we will plan on leaving earlier (probably around 1:00 - 2:00pm). For the young men and parents of them that said they could go, will you please give me a firm commitment that you will go, because I don't want to keep this date if only one or two young men will go. Please give me a call ASAP, if I don't here from you by Tuesday, I would like to know that evening at scouts. Thank you.
Doug L. and Jacob - we apologize for the conflict in scheduling. Sister Lundell gave me a flyer about the MB college several months ago, and I had completely forgotten about it, and nobody else remembered it the night we planned. Oh well. This weekend (12-13) still doesn't work well for me, and the 19-20 appeared to be the best night when we planned it and it still seems the best. Doug and Jacob, I know you have decided to go the MB college, but I have to get in one last word, and that is, as I have said before, that I think going on a camp-out is far more important than a MB college. The reason I think that, is because I think your character would be better built on a camp-out and the unity of the quorum would increase far more on a camp-out than a MB college. If you guys can change your plans, get your money back, or apply it to a future MB college, we would love to have you come along, but I understand if you don't.
